Senior Drivers

We believe that driving is not just about from your point of origin to your destination; it is about how we safely conduct our lives. Losing the ability to drive or even be restricted to areas we can drive can significantly impact our independence and quality of life.

Our purpose is to effectively refresh the driving skills and Behaviour of senior drivers. The reason for the existence of our older driver service is to facilitate senior drivers to pass the requirements of the RMS whilst upholding safety and safe driving on the road. We care about the safety of our senior drivers on the road and we will strive to achieve this by concreting our purpose in the driving school industry.

Licencing Requirements from 75 years of age

Firstly a very big happy birthday for turning 75! Now that your 75 years of age the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) require you to undertake a medical examination every year to keep your driver’s licence. RMS will send you a form approximately 8 weeks before your birthday for your doctor to complete.

Licencing Requirements from 85 years of age

Once again happy birthday for turning 85! When you reach 85 years of age the RMS requires you to undertake a practical driving assessment every second year (85, 87, 89 etc.) in addition to your yearly medical examination to keep your unrestricted drivers licence. If you no longer require an unrestricted licence you can opt for a modified licence without the need to do a practical drivers licence.

Don’t be alarmed about the process involved! That why we are here. Leyla Driving School provides the service of conducting driving assessments to assess senior driver’s competency and be able to recommend them for their licence as per RMS requirements. We will conduct the assessment in your local area for your convenience.
